New Technologies

We are proud of adopting the most current and innovative technologies to provide your child with the best clinical care in the most gentle and comfortable way possible

Solea Laser Dentistry

Utilizing advanced laser technology, the Solea Laser is nothing less than revolutionary for pediatric dentistry. We now offer this pain-free and efficient alternative to conventional dental tools. With the Solea laser, we are able to provide restorative procedures anesthesia-free—i.e. fillings with no shots! This advanced tool helps us reduce anxiety for children and provide dental treatment in a gentle, pain-free manner.

How the Solea Laser Works
The Solea emits a small beam of light which pulsates at an extremely high rate of frequency causing the tooth to have a temporary analgesic effect. This is what allows us to perform fillings and treatment procedures without having to administer local anesthesia.

Other Benefits of the Solea Laser:

  • It seals the blood vessels which virtually eliminates all bleeding during procedures
  • Sterilizes the area which reduces bacterial infections
  • Reduces damage to soft tissues
  • Promotes healing by promoting tissue regeneration and eliminating scarring

Overjet AI

We are now using the Overjet AI platform for dentistry. Trained on millions of real cases, Overjet is the only technology cleared by the FDA to detect, outline, and quantify oral pathologies, down to a fraction of a millimeter, enabling us to detect oral disease with unmatched precision. This diagnostic tool also helps parents visualize and better understand our treatment recommendations.

With Overjet AI, the red and yellow colors indicate the areas of carious lesions. The color difference indicates the difference in sizes of the lesions.

Pain Control

While our use of the Solea Laser virtually eliminates the need for anesthesia, when pain relief is necessary we can provide Nitrous Oxide and/or local anesthesia.
We also offer sedation with General Anesthesia when necessary or appropriate. We partner with a highly skilled Medical Anesthesiologist from John Muir Hospital who comes to our office to safely administer anesthesia.

Dental Emergencies

We understand that when trauma happens or if your child is in pain, it can be a very stressful and anxiety-provoking time. We are here to help you through these situations by answering any questions and to provide the care your child may need.

If your child experiences a dental emergency, please give our office a call as soon as possible. Even after hours, there will be a doctor available who can assist you with what to do next.

Here are some of the more common emergencies and what you can do if it happens:

When a Tooth Gets Bumped Loose
Avoid any hard, sticky foods and avoid biting or putting any pressure on the tooth until it can be evaluated. If it is a baby tooth that can be removed with your fingers, the tooth should be removed to avoid aspiration or swallowing.

Tooth Pain

Soft foods and over the counter pain medications, such as Children’s Tylenol or Motrin, can be taken until the tooth can be evaluated by a dentist. Check for a swelling that presents as a bubble or pimple on the gums above the tooth as this may be an indication of an infection and antibiotics may be needed.

Chipped Tooth
Depending on the extent of the chip or fracture and whether the tooth is a baby tooth or an adult tooth, the treatment alternatives will vary. Avoiding the area, eating soft foods, and over the counter pain medications should help alleviate symptoms until the tooth can be evaluated. If you see a nerve exposure (with a red area in the middle of the tooth), see a dentist as quickly as possible.

Knocked Out Tooth
Clean the knocked out tooth with water and place it in a cup of milk as quickly as possible. Do not try to replant the tooth in the socket. For a permanent tooth, see a dentist as soon as possible so that the tooth may possibly be saved by replanting it. For a baby tooth, the tooth will not be replanted, but your child should be evaluated with an x-ray to rule out any further complications.

Bleeding/Cut Gums
Apply pressure to the area with gauze or a towel to help the bleeding stop. You can apply cold compresses or ice packs. Taking Tylenol for pain management (rather than Advil or Ibuprofen) is advisable when there is bleeding involved.

Double Row of Teeth
If you notice that your child has a double row of teeth (baby teeth still present and adult teeth erupting), please take a picture and send it to our office. Sometimes the teeth can be monitored until the baby teeth fall out naturally and sometimes an extraction may be recommended.

The dentist and staff are educational and informative about what they recommend, but never make me feel uneasy about making the choices I feel are best for my child.”
